Along with his family, John became the new owner as of June, 2020. 
As the new owners, John and his family still are able to offer the same high-quality service and meat since the owner before him, David Martin and prior to David, Terry Sheetz, who started back in the mid 60's.

In Mid 60's


In 1963 Terry Sheetz started farming in Stevens, Pennsylvania and by 1965 he started raising pigs, that eventually grew into a business.

During this time, he and a few other local men started the Denver "JC's" organization.  They got an idea to do a pig roast and tried their hand at building a "pit".  After several tries, they decided to rent a cooker.  They then decided to make their own using the one they rented as an example.  This eventually turned into 7 cookers that they started renting out with a little guidance in how-to cook your own pig.  This became a business that kept growing and they even would include their sauce with the rental service, so their customers could enjoy the same success in creating the mouth-watering pig they have perfected.  This continuing success kept growing over the next 20 years with advertising in local papers and online.  The phone never stopped ringing.

Most of Terry's success was because he raised the pig and new the pigs were healthy, antibiotic-free and well cared for.  People knowing this, grew into an appreciation and strong selling point.  Terry catered large gatherings locally and out of state.  Bollman's Hat Factory, a local business would hold employee appreciation events and hire Terry to roast 7 pigs to serve by noon, which meant an early start to the day, but he enjoyed roasting and catering to people.

Since the beginning, Terry used the same cooking steps and offered the same sauce year after year, because it became so popular.

In 1995


Terry was a family friend to Sandra and her parents.  Both David and Sandra grew up on a farm consisting of hogs and beef in Lancaster County. David lived in the Ephrata area and Sandra lived in Stevens about a mile from Terry Sheetz. Terry and Sandra's dad worked together on their farms, sharing equipment and labor. When Sandra and David were married in 1995, Terry had cooked a pig for their wedding meal.

Following the marriage, David began working on a hog farm and part-time at a feed mill close to Terry's house. When Terry needed a hand getting hogs out of the cookers, David would sometimes assist him. As time went on, a dream was taking place. David's family was growing, and he wanted a farm that would allow him to be home full-time and work while working with Sandy and the children.

In October of 2007, David bought a farm near Myerstown, Pa, Lebanon County. While working part-time at Stevens Feed Mill, he started growing turkeys. During the summer of 2007, David was helping Terry more, cooking pigs and delivering cookers. Due to his health, and him wanting to spend more time at his cabin in the mountains, Terry decided to retire from the pig roasting business. Over the winter, Terry mentioned his interest to David and felt he could take over with some guidance from Terry.

In 2008


January of 2008, Martin's Roast A Pig was established. It has been a great transition and things are working out very well for David and Terry.  David maintains what he has learned from Terry's experience but also keeping innovated with new ideas as business grows. David takes his hogs to a local processing shop that is under USDA inspection every week, so the hogs you are getting are fresh.

In 2020


 In June of 2020 David Martin sold the business to John Stoltzfus.  John and Miriam Stoltzfus have been in the Food Industry since 2006, having owned and operated a Deli Market Stand in Lebanon Market and now are excited to be the owners of a business in the Food Industry.  Understanding the years that Terry Sheetz and David Martin spent in creating a quality "Status Quo" in the local Pig Roasting Industry, the Stoltzfus family wants to maintain the same quality and service using the advice of both Mr. Sheetz and Mr. Martin.

Having the Old Order Amish background, PA Dutch Cooking is what it's all about.  We are committed in serving the Food Industry prompt and courteous service, with exceptional taste and high-quality tasting products.  John comes from a family of 6 boys, so guess what, they all had to help their Mother Lizzie prepare meals which included cooking and baking and surely the cleanup afterwards.

As the new owners of Martin's Roast A Pig, we are excited for the opportunity to serve the community with the Signature Old Fashioned Pig Roast and sides that go with it, such as the Original BBQ Sauce that was handed down from the original owner and founder, Terry Sheetz.  The Stoltzfus's realize that serving "Pig Roast Your Way" is paramount to the client.

Serving our clients with a Pig Roaster, Rotisserie, or a Grated Style Cooker, offering the satisfaction of Roasting their own Pig.  Other options include supplying a high-quality Antibiotic Free Pig that is slaughtered under USDA Inspection, to roasting the pig at our facility, or on the client's site.  We strive to be a one-stop shop for any event.  From weddings, graduation parties, block parties, reunions, company picnics, customer appreciation to benefits.  Whatever event it is, pig roasting will be the perfect match!
